AKIRA

AKIRA

Around the end of November, I went to go watch AKIRA at Apollo Cinema located in Kitchener. The one time I'm thankful for my instagram addiction. It was one of the greatest cinema experiences I've ever had. The positive experience not only came from the movie, but was the entire experience that complemented it. The seats were spacious and very comfy, the screen was massive, and the sound was loud and clear like those thunders you sometimes hear. It was such a great experience that I'd like to go back whenever they have another anime film on.

The movie had stunning animation visuals meshed well with the cyberpunk, dystopian story. It was one of those movies that bring the groove to life's tune, although very short-lived, like the burst of ecstasy you get from drugs(I have not done them). I did get the feeling that the movie was missing parts, especially towards the ending where the it got me to question what the hell had just happened. Turns out its an anime adaptation from the manga. Kinda like how Nausicaa is a manga adaptation and the manga version is substantially better, hoping the same goes for Akira whenever I get the chance to read it.

AKIRA

A week or two later, I had an opposite AKIRA experience. I went to watch another anime movie(Interstella 5555?) the night before a finals exam, but this time it was at a different place called princess cinemas or something like that. It had a much smaller screen, chairs were not that comfortable, and spacing was non-existent between the seats. It was also freezing that day.

I found the movie to be complete rubbish, although my buddy thought it was nice. The movie had zero dialogue, it was literally just an hour and half of daft punk music. Like what the hell? To add the cherry on top, they added another 30 minutes of daft punk song M/V's after the movie ended, and they were really fucking weird. The first music video they they showed was some dude in a dog costume with a fat radio playing daft punk music. I used to listen to daft punk every there and now, but ever since I watched the movie I have not touched them.

Maybe the movie wasn't so bad after all, and that it was the accumulation of negative side experiences that effected my thoughts on the movie. I don't know.
